Sea Devils Extend Win Streak to 11 with Weekend Victories
Cape Fear Community College volleyball continued its dominant run this weekend, earning two key conference victories and solidifying its position atop the conference standings. The Sea Devils, ranked #25 in the country, swept Guilford Technical Community College in straight sets before outlasting Davidson-Davie Community College in a thrilling five-set battle.
Against Guilford Tech, Cape Fear controlled the pace from start to finish, using strong serving to build and maintain leads in each set. Contributions from across the roster highlighted the team's depth and consistency, resulting in a smooth, all-around performance.
The second match against Davidson-Davie proved a tougher challenge. After dropping the opening set, the Sea Devils responded with poise, tightening up defensively and finding offensive rhythm to win sets two and four. In the decisive fifth, Cape Fear stayed composed under pressure, executing down the stretch to secure the victory.
Coach Colby Rosser praised the team's resilience and focus.
"Good complete performance from the team as a whole. Sophia Luoni did a nice job stepping into the libero role, and I was happy to see us maintain focus for the entirety of the match. It's always a good feeling to get a win on the road against a very tenacious team. DDCC pushed us in a variety of ways, and I was happy to see us respond and persevere to get the win."
With the weekend victories, Cape Fear improves to 13–1 overall and 5–0 in conference play, extending its win streak to 11 matches and remaining first in the conference standings. The Sea Devils travel to Forsyth Tech on Friday, October 10, before facing Wake Tech the following morning.
