Cape Fear Community College's women's soccer team faced a tough challenge in the South District Tournament against Southern Union State (AL), ultimately falling 6–0. Southern Union State struck quickly, scoring twice within the first four minutes, and maintained control for the remainder of the match.
Cape Fear's young squad, made up mostly of freshmen with a few sophomores, fought to find offensive rhythm but was unable to break through a disciplined Southern Union defense. Goalkeeper Jaime Maguire made 17 saves, keeping the score from climbing even higher, but the Sea Devils couldn't find a way to convert chances into goals.
The loss brought the Sea Devils' season to a close with an 8–3–1 record, ending their national title hopes.
Coach Ponton praised the team's effort and resilience: "Nobody ever wants to finish the season this way, but I'm incredibly proud of our team. A squad largely composed of freshmen led by a handful of sophomores made an impressive run. We would like to thank all our family and friends who followed us throughout the season. The experience this group gained will be invaluable moving into next season."
