Women's Soccer Capture Region 10 Championship, Advance to South District Tournament
Cape Fear Community College women's soccer sealed its fifth straight Region 10 Championship Saturday afternoon, topping Wake Technical Community College 2–0 to earn the crown and punch its ticket to the South District Tournament in Alabama.
It was a composed, confident display by the Sea Devils from start to finish. In the 25th minute, freshman Laina Elliott curled a shot into the net after a feed from Amelia Myers, giving Cape Fear the early edge. The second half remained tense, with both teams vying for control, until Elliott sprung Ava Walker in the 55th minute, and Walker delivered a perfectly struck finish to double the lead.
Defensively, Cape Fear was rock solid. Amina Bracey patrolled the back line with authority, while Avery LaBrecque, Carrie Street, and Kenliana Dixon formed a defensive wall ahead of keeper Jaime Maguire, who collected four saves and preserved another clean sheet.
Coach CW Ponton praised the team's growth: "I am very proud of this team. They have grown so much together this season, and today showed it. We were able to implement everything we worked on, and each player was able to contribute."
With the Region 10 title in hand, the Sea Devils (7-2-1) now shift their focus to Alabama and the NJCAA South District Tournament next weekend.
