Sea Devils Finish Record Breaking Season
Win regular season title with 19-1-1 record
Wilmington, NC - The Cape Fear Community College Women's Soccer Team finished their record breaking 2011 NJCAA season with the programs best record of 19-1-1 and, 15-1-1 in Region 10 play. The Lady Sea Devils won the Regular Season Title for the fourth time in six seasons, but were upset for the first time ever in the Region 10 Championship game by Spartanburg Methodist to earn Tournament Runners-up.
The championship game was tied 0-0 after regulation and double over time but the Sea Devils were defeated 4-3 in penalty kicks ending their record breaking season. Freshman Forward, Jaylyn High was named the Region 10 "Player of the Year". Defender Rebecca Dupre, Midfielder Lauren Sawyer, and Midfielder Amanda Fenton were all named to the 1st Team "All Region". Defender Annie Orchard, and Forward Amber Eberhard were named to the 2nd team. Goalkeeper Kailey Johnson received Honorable Mention. Head Coach Chris Libert received the Region 10 "Coach of the Year" for the fifth time. Several records were broken over the course of the 2011 season. Jaylyn High's 32 goals and 12 assists broke the single season scoring record and total points record with 76 points. The team's 113 goals were the most ever in a single season, breaking the original mark of 71. The team recorded 18 shut-outs in 21 games and allowed the fewest goals ever with eight against, averaging .38 per game.
