Sea Devils Defeat SMC
Improve to 9-1 in conference play
Wilmington, N.C. - Cape Fear Community College's women's soccer team avenged an early season loss by beating Spartanburg Methodist 3-1 Saturday at the North Campus Soccer Facilities.
Wilmington native and New Hanover graduate Jaylyn High netted all three goals for the Sea Devils. "Coach has been telling me all season to cut right and go left and I finally listened to him, so I guess it worked out," said High.
Spartanburg Methodist, who came into the game ranked No. 12 in the NJCAA poll, dropped to 7-3 in conference play, while the Sea Devils moved to 9-1 in conference action. The win guarantees the Sea Devils a share of the Region 10 championship for the second straight season.
"We feel now that we might get some recognition nationally, we've won the conference five years in a row and have never been ranked in NJCAA," Sea Devils coach Chris Libert said. "We used it as bulletin board material. I don't care if there is a number next to our name, but it feels good to beat the number 12 team in the country.
CFCC is back in action tomorrow as the visit USC Lancaster. The Sea Devils then return home for a three game stretch beginning Wednesday to finish the regular season.
