Women's Soccer Opens 2011 Regular Season with Victories

Wilmington, N.C. - The Cape Fear Community College Lady Sea Devil Soccer Team opened up the 2011 regular season this past weekend with two victories. Saturday at the North Campus Soccer Field, CFCC hosted CCBC Catonsville from Maryland's NJCAA Region 20. Freshman Forward, Jaylyn High (New Hanover HS) opened up the scoring in the 10th minute off an assist from Ce Ce Risk (Cary HS). The Lady Sea Devils added two more goals just before half-time from Kelly Sigmon (Fike HS) off an assist from Sophomore Brandi Deal (Northwest Cabarrus HS), and another for High off an assist from Brittany Beaty (First Colonial HS, VA). Amanda Fenton (White Oak HS) added to the score in the second half in the 60th minute, aided by Annie Orchard (Robert Glenn HS). Rachel Hicks scored the final goal of the day off an assist from Risk to seal a 5-0 victory. Goalkeepers Samantha Walker (Jay M. Robinson HS) and Kerinn Hall (Jacksonville HS) preserved the shut-out. CFCC had 21 shots to CCBC Catonsville's 3.
CFCC returned to the field on Sunday to play host to another Maryland foe, Howard CC. The Sea Devils stormed out of the gate scoring in the first 14 seconds of the contest to take a 1-0 lead. Connor Allegood (Fike HS) connected with Ce Ce Risk off the opening kick-off. Moments later, Kara May Rice was brought down in the Penalty box, and CFCC was awarded with a Penalty Kick. White Oak High School's Amanda Fenton successfully put away the free kick. The team used second half goals from Brittany Beaty, Jaylyn High, Stephanie Vanvekoven (Topsail HS) and another from Ce Ce Risk to earn a 6-0 victory. The Sea Devils outshot Howard CC, 23 to 1. Goalkeepers Samantha Walker and Kailey Johnson (Topsail HS) combined for the second shut-out of the weekend and the season.
The team will travel on Wednesday, September 7th to Allendale, SC to take on Region Ten rival USC-Salkehatchie. Kick-off is set for 4pm.
