Sea Devils Fall Late at Cleveland Community College
Cape Fear spent much of Monday night playing from behind but refused to go away, erasing a 12-point third-quarter deficit to tie the game with three minutes remaining. But heavy foul trouble and Cleveland's late trips to the free-throw line proved to be the difference as the Sea Devils fell 76–67 on the road.
Kelize Velez Galan led Cape Fear with 20 points, knocking down four threes. Yamorie Hardison delivered a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Monica Surratt added 18 points and 8 rebounds. Maggie Hawley added 15 points and showed strong composure throughout the night.
Coach Felicity Havens said, "We played from behind most of the game, but the girls fought hard. Even coming back from being down 12 points in the third quarter, we were able to tie the game with three minutes left. Maggie really showed a lot of poise leading us throughout the entire game. We will use this as we keep trying to improve daily."
The loss moves Cape Fear to 4–1 on the season. The Sea Devils play another road contest Tuesday at Guilford Tech CC, with tipoff set for 5:00 PM.
