Lori Drake Named Head Women's Basketball Coach
Drake joins Sea Devil staff
WILMINGTON, NC - Lori Drake joins the Sea Devils in her first year as head coach for the inaugural CFCC women's basketball program. Drake will begin her tenure at CFCC implementing a program from ground up in the National Junior College Athletic Association, Region 10. Coach Drake comes to Cape Fear with an extensive background of not only playing at the collegiate and professional level, but also coaching, teaching and training top players and teams. Drake recently was invited to be a floor coach at the 2011 Hampton Girl's Basketball Nike Skills Academy, where she had an opportunity to work with some of the top trainers, coaches and legends of the game such as; Ganon Baker, Dee Brown, Nadine Domond, Diane Richardson, Micah Lancaster and Erica White. Coach Drake spent this past year as the Basketball Divisions Director, and Lead Skills Development Coach, for The Stronger Woman. During her stint overseas, she also started a Stronger Woman Showcase Team in Wilmington, NC where she helped six seniors continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level for this coming fall.
Prior to coaching, Lori Drake spent 2 years playing professionally in the United Kingdom. Coach Drake helped lead the Solent Suns to Final Four in the 2008-2009 season, where she averaged 19 ppg, and 8.5 rpg. That same season Lori was selected to play on the All-Star team for "The Rest of the World" vs. "England". Lori has had the opportunity to play in Luxembourg, Germany, Wales and the United Kingdom throughout her 2 years playing professionally. During her stint overseas, Drake was also the Head Women's Basketball Coach at the University of Chichester in the UK where she helped lead the team to their first cup game win in school history.
A graduate of UNCW, Drake capped off her college playing career for the Seahawks under Coach Ann Hancock. In her final season at UNCW, Drake was named to the all CAA team where she was the leading scorer, rebounder and team captain for the Seahawks. Coach Drake's college career started at Seward County Community College, where she helped lead the Saints to a 32-5 season and final national ranking of #8.
