Men's Basketball Downs Denmark
The Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils closed the regular season with an impressive offensive performance, pulling away in the second half for a 96–79 victory over Denmark Technical College on March 7.
Cape Fear came out pushing the tempo from the opening tip, attacking in transition and building an early advantage. The Sea Devils stretched the lead to double digits midway through the first half, but Denmark Tech responded with a run of its own to tighten the game. By halftime, the lead had been trimmed to just four points as Cape Fear held a 43–39 edge.
The Sea Devils wasted little time regaining control after the break. Back-to-back three-pointers sparked the offense early in the second half, and a highlight-reel dunk electrified the crowd as Cape Fear surged ahead. The momentum carried the lead to 20 points, and the Sea Devils maintained control the rest of the way.
Malachi Simpson delivered a dominant performance with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead Cape Fear. JJ Moore matched him with 23 points while also orchestrating the offense with nine assists and adding three steals. Greysen McCadden contributed across the board with 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Cape Fear finished with 21 assists as a team and controlled the glass with a 45–34 rebounding advantage.
Head coach Mark Lane said the win was an important one as the team prepares for postseason play, while also recognizing the group of sophomores playing their final home game.
"It was a good win to carry into the conference tournament," Lane said. "Today was really about our sophomores. They've meant a lot to this program, and it's tough knowing this was their last game here."
