Men's Basketball Falls to Indians
USC Salkehatchie used its depth and pace to pull away from Cape Fear in a 142-89 loss on Thursday.
The Sea Devils came out ready to compete early, trading baskets with USC Salkehatchie and staying within striking distance through the opening stretch. Cape Fear trailed by just two with eight minutes left in the first half, but a costly stretch of quick shots and turnovers allowed USC Salkehatchie to create separation and take a 73-50 lead into halftime.
Cape Fear showed a spark coming out of the break, opening the second half with energy and knocking down two three-pointers in its first few possessions. However, USC Salkehatchie continued to push tempo and capitalize on its depth, making it difficult for the Sea Devils to cut into the deficit.
Jacob Daniels led Cape Fear with 16 points, hitting three three-pointers while adding three steals. Jonathan White and JJ Moore each finished with 14 points, while Tedrick Waters added 13 points and Eli Hawk chipped in 11. Brandon Adams provided an efficient boost off the bench with seven points, knocking down both of his three-point attempts.
"Back to the drawing board," said Head Coach Mark Lane. "We have to do a better job taking care of the ball and making free throws when they count."
The loss drops Cape Fear to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in league play. The Sea Devils return home Friday night to take on Caldwell Tech, with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
