Sea Devils Falter Late in Home Loss to East Georgia State
Cape Fear held a narrow 44–42 lead at halftime on Saturday, staying in front despite East Georgia's zone defense disrupting the Sea Devils' rhythm and the Bobcats' hot shooting from the perimeter. East Georgia ultimately buried 13 three-pointers at a 52% clip, a surge that proved too much for a worn-down Cape Fear offense to match in an 81–72 loss at home.
The Sea Devils struggled to counter from deep, finishing 6-for-36 (16.7%) from beyond the arc while trying to navigate the zone.
Malachi Simpson led Cape Fear with 19 points, and MJ Rice added 14 points and 9 rebounds. Jadyn Cooper scored 12, and JJ Moore finished with 13.
Coach Mark Lane said, "I thought we did a good job defensively for most of the game, but we missed a lot of 50/50 balls that could have turned into points. We only played one good half. Turnovers and bad shooting in the second half killed us. We'll regroup and look to get a must-win game on the road Thursday."
The loss moves Cape Fear to 3–1 on the season. The Sea Devils travel to Pitt CC on Thursday, with game time slated for 6:00 PM.
