Lady Sea Devils Women’s Soccer Falls Short in District H Final
2009 campaign comes to an end
Wilmington, N.C. - The CFCC women's soccer team ended their 2009 season this past weekend in the District H Final with a loss to Region XX Champion Harford Community College by the score of 4-0 in Bel Air, Md. The Sea Devils outshot the Owls in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net and remained deadlocked 0-0 at half-time. CFCC could not hold off the Harford attack and gave up three quick goals in the 62nd, 65th, and 68th minute. The Sea Devils never answered back and gave up a final goal in the last minute of play to end the mid-atlantic contest. Cape Fear ends the season with an overall record of 15-5.
The Sea Devils won the Region X tournament final for a fourth straight season and captured an NSCAA National ranking as high as #12 for the first time in the programs history. The District H loss left the Lady Sea Devils one game shy of the NJCAA 8 team National Tournament. “I am very proud of this year's team,” commented head coach Chris Libert. “It's great to see these young athletes feed on the tradition of the teams before them and look forward to continuing our tradition next season.”
