Women's Soccer

CFCC Women’s Soccer Captures 4th Straight Region X Title
Edge Louisburg 2-1 in final

Wilmington, N.C. - Cape Fear Community College Women's Soccer captured is fourth consecutive Region X title this past Tuesday by defeating Louisburg College 2-1 in the tournament final in Louisburg, NC. After a deadlocked half-time score of 0-0, freshman Midfielder Jenna Paramore headed home a Carley Strauss cross in the 62nd minute, putting the Lady Sea Devils ahead in the contest. Louisburg quickly answered with a goal five minutes later, tying the score at 1-1. The Sea Devils and the Hurricanes battled back and forth until freshman Midfielder Carley Strauss scored in the 73rd minute off an assist from Laurel Ramsey. Freshman Goalkeeper Margaret Wyatt had 5 crucial saves in the contest to preserve the win for CFCC.

The Sea Devils entered the tournament as the #2 seed for the second straight year. Cape Fear and Louisburg split games earlier the season, with Louisburg winning a tie breaker formula making them the #1 seed. Cape Fear defeated #3 seed Spartanburg Methodist College 3-0 while Louisburg defeated #4 seed USC Salkehatchie 3-0 in both Semi-Final games on Saturday. CFCC improved their record to 15 wins and 4 losses and have earned a #12 NSCAA National Ranking for the first time in the team's 4 year history. The Lady Sea-Devils will now face #9 NSCAA ranked Harford Community College this Saturday, November 7th in the District H Final in Bel Air, Md. Kickoff is set for 12 noon. The winner of the District H Final earns a birth in the 8 team NJCAA National Tournament, November 19-21 in Tyler, Texas.
