Men's Soccer Fall Short At Region 10 Tournament
Sea Devils upset early in CJCC tournament
Wilmington, N.C. – The Cape Fear Community College men's soccer team concluded the 2009 season at the Carolinas Junior College Conference in Louisburg, N.C. on Oct. 31.
The Sea Devils fell to Spartanburg Methodist College, 4-1, in the semifinal match. Cape Fear ended the season with a 13-4-1 overall record and a conference record of 10-3-1 (best in school history).
Sophomore Vieux Sarr led the team in goals and points, with 14 and 31 respectively, while David Caffe tallied a goals against average of 1.10. Sophomores Brian Kirkman, Tyler Sosa, Kimball Webster, Brandon Locklear, Marcus Krueger, Lester Martorell, Morgan Kane, and Joey Flint end their JUCO stint with a stellar overall record of 28-9-2 and a Region 10 conference championship ('08).
"While losing leadership and experience with this years sophomore class, we look to rebuild for the 2010 season. With a few key recruits and the freshmen that stepped up this year, I believe we'll be competitive immediately, stated Coach McGee."
