Lady Sea Devils Soccer Team Split
Defeat Essex 3-2

Wilmington, N.C. - The Lady Sea Devils Soccer team suffered their 1st loss of the season this past weekend with a 4-0 result against Region 20 opponent, Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland. The Owls opened up scoring early on a rain soaked turf field with a goal in the 10th minute of play. Sea Devil Sophomore, Marlina Kriener nearly answered a few minutes later with a shot that hit the post narrowly equalizing the score. Harford added 2 more before half time leaving the team at a 3 nil deficit. CFFC controlled most of the play in the second half, but could never get back on track. Harford added one more goal late in the second half. Goalkeeper Karrissa Kimrey faced 8 shots, making 4 saves and allowing 3 goals. Freshman Goalkeeper Lexi Canady made her first appearance of the season facing 6 shots and making 2 saves and allowing 1 goal in the effort.

The Lady Sea Devils returned to their winning ways on Sunday with a 3-2 Double Overtime win against CCBC Essex, in Rosedale, Maryland. After controlling most of the first half, the Lady Sea Devils fell behind 1-0 in the 60th minute. The Sea Devils didn't waste any time being down and equalized the score in the 67th minute by a goal by Ashli Flowers, assisted by Annie Haywood. Less than 10 minutes later, Flowers penetrated the box again and made a pass to Casey Naylor who put the ball in the back of the net, putting the Lady Sea Devils on top. With less than two minutes to go in the game, Essex scored sending the game into overtime. After a 10 minutes of scoreless overtime play, Ashli Flowers was brought down in the penalty box shortly into the 2nd overtime. Carley Strauss converted the PK, ending 103 minutes of soccer. Lexi Canady picked up her first win in goal for the Sea Devils. The win boasted CFCC's record to 5 wins and 1 loss. Cape Fear returns home on Saturday, September 19th as they play host to Spartanburg Methodist College at 4 p.m. at the CFCC North Campus Soccer Field.
