Former Sea Devil Signs Professional Contract
Goalkeeper plays overseas
Wilmington, N.C. - In November, after the Sea Devil men's soccer team won its first Region X Championship, a former keeper signed for the New Zealand Futbol Championship League, Waikato Futbol Club. Greg Walters, a stand out keeper receiving All-Region and serving as the CFCC captain in '04-'05, will play in between the posts for Waikato FC in New Zealand.
"We are excited for Greg and hope this experience will prepare him for a higher level of play. He has worked very hard on and off the field. We wish him the best and are very proud of him, stated Coach McGee".
After transferring to Appalachian State University for a two-year stint and then competing with the Railhawks-PDL, Walters signed a professional contract with Waikato FC. Recently, Walters signed with Three Kings United, and for the Summer season will join the Auckland City Futbol Club in Auckland, New Zealand - Auckland Futbol Federation.
The statement below is from a media release for the NZFC:
"Rounding out the team, Waikato's new keeper – 24-year-old American Greg Walters, who makes our team after a fine debut for his new club (Waikato FC). Walters makes the most of his 1.91 metre tall frame to dominate his area, and that positivity and confidence spread throughout his team mates as Waikato notched back-to-back wins for the first time in over a season (courtesy of Waikato FC).
